Poetry and how it can help

So, creativity helps with expressing yourself when you’re feeling low. I’ve discussed art but I haven’t really brought up poetry. I used to write a lot of poetry when I was younger and I thought it helped bring out how I felt. I haven’t for a while, however, I thought I would share some of my older works because I thought they were pretty good. Why poetry? Well, poetry has no rules really. You write how you feel, what you feel and whatever coes to mind. That’s what I loved about it! This post isn’t going to be very long as I wanted to show these and give another idea…

Having things to look forward to

Okay, who doesn’t love having something to look forward to illness or no illness? It’s the excitement that brings some joy to peoples lives regardless of what is going on for them. However, I find when I’m feeling particularly low and lost… having something to look forward to no matter how small it is really does go a long way! Doesn’t it seem kind of obvious? Yeah, having things to look forward to, to make you feel happy IS an obvious thing. However, when you’re feeling really low and you’re struggling with your mental illness.. it kind of isn’t. You don’t think you have anything good in your life. You…

    A little makeover never hurts

So, during the last few weeks where I’ve been clawing back some control over my mental health and reaching out for the support I need I’ve tried to do a little self care. Not the usual, bath, read a book or what not because that’s not been on my mind. Infact, this one happened after being awake for over 24 hours straight and noticing some of my pink was stripped out of my hair. So, what did I do? I went out, spent a fair bit on dyes and what not and changed my hair colour. Whilst it’s not your typical self care… I think sometimes a change, a makeover…

Real Talk: Not coping is okay.

Right, so let’s address the elephants in the room before we get on with today’s post. Yes, I have been away and not posting and that is indeed because I have been feeling really low and not coping with my mental illness. I thought it was best to distance myself from everything. I know now, in hindsight.. that was a bad idea. Also, I am very much aware of my previous post and can I please point out… I will address this later in this post. When you’re going through a dark time you see no way out. During my time away, I wasn’t coping as much as I was…

Ensuring you get the help you need!

Okay, firstly. Yes I said once a week… but since I’m feeling productive I’ll push a bit more. Secondly, this post is more geared towards aiding you in getting the help you need. Giving you advice from my personal experience and things that I have learned along the way so far. But they’re the professionals they know what’s wrong! While, yes, this is very true. They are professionals in mental health. However, mental illnesses are very broad and experiences differ for everyone there is no one size fits all model. I’ve said this time and time again… what works for one person may not work for another and vice versa.…

It will contain triggering subjects. So, I set up all of novembers posts at the end…

    How gaming helps my mood.

So, when you’re feeling low, frustrated or angry how do you deal with that in a healthy way? I guess you could visualise your mood being taken out on people and things cause that’s a normal reaction. I kind of do that but I also rely on games to do what I visualise doing. Since in video games, there are no repercussions for your actions. (Besides in-game prison, dying etc) So what games do I use? Well, it depends on what mood I’m in really. If I’m feeling sad I’ll probably play some uplifting game or a sad game that matches my mood. However, if I’m frustrated or angry there’s a…

What I’m grateful for – Positivity post

So here’s the next in my positivity post series. Todays is focusing on things that I’m grateful for and why. It’s good to focus on a little positivity now and again and break up the seriousness of some of my posts. Why this topic? Well, I wanted to look into things that I’m grateful for and have another positivity post after all the serious posts I’ve done so far. A nice little happy break if you so wish. To be fair, we think of all the things bad going on in our lives, we never look at the good things or things that mean alot to us. Hence why I’m…

How to support someone with a mental illness

I feel I need to talk about this. We need to address the issue of what is and isn’t helpful. There’s enough stigma around mental illnesses that stunts people’s perceptions of what is helpful and how to deal with it. I’m sorry, this post may be a little blunt but it’s one that’s close to home. Mental illneses and the importance of support So, when someone is suffering with a mental illness be it anxiety, depression, schizophrenia or anything really they need support. Whilst I have spoken about the importance of reaching out for support I haven’t mentioned the importance of supporting those who are suffering. From experience, trying to cope without…
